    MEMBERSHIP

Q:   How can a member obtain a copy of the full minutes rather than the bulleted
copy as published in the magazine?

A:   A member may obtain a copy of the full minutes of any meeting of NVRA by contacting Membership Services and requesting same.

Q:  As a member of NVRA, what do I receive for the dues that I pay?
A:  Tangible and intangible benefits include:

    • Listing in NVRA’s national directory
    • Listing in reporter referral on website
    • Discounted rates on car rental, long distance, supplies and shipping
    • Accidental death and dismemberment insurance
    • Bi-weekly on-line publication and quarterly magazine
    • Continuing education seminars
    • Technology updates
    • Frequent testing opportunities for national certification
    • Networking and information exchange
    • Annual Convention
    • Representation of the voice writing profession at the national and international levels

Q:  How is the location of NVRA's annual convention selected?

A:  Each year at convention the membership makes suggestions for the location of the next year's convention.  The House and Program Chairperson researches the suggested locations and brings that information before NVRA's Board.  After careful consideration of the information provided, the selection is reduced to three sites.  These three sites are published to the general membership.  The membership is then asked to vote by ballot on these three choices, thus providing the site of the next NVRA Annual Convention.

    CONTINUING EDUCATION

    Q.      When does the current cycle end?

    A.        December 31, 2011.  We are at the beginning of the third year of the three-year cycle.

    Q.      How many credits do I have to have during this cycle?

    A.        The credit requirement is 30 credits per cycle for all certified members.

    Q.      If I earned my CVR during this cycle, how many credits do I need?

    A.        In the year you are certified, you will receive 10 credits (5 for earning the CVR and 5 for attending the basic workshop).  You will then need to earn 10 credits for each year remaining in the cycle.  If you earn your CVR during 2011, you will not need to earn any further credits until the next cycle.

Please see page 2 of the CE Handbook for a more complete description.

    Q.      Can I earn CE credits prior to attaining my certification?

    A.        No.  NVRA does not keep track of CE credits for non-certified members.  If you need credit for your state or other organization, however, you can obtain proof of attendance at NVRA preapproved events.  Just ask the event host for an orange card.

    Q.      How do I know what I’ve received credit for?

    A.      There are three ways to determine what credits have been posted to your name.  The easiest way is to check the NVRA website.  To find your credits, click on the member tab portion of this website.  In addition, NVRA Member Services sends a CE report at the end of the month during which credits were posted and a yearly transcript of all credits to date during the cycle.

Lastly, the total number of credits posted for you during the current cycle is shown following your name on the mailing label of your copy of the Verbatim Record.

    Q.      Where do I find the appropriate forms to submit for credit?

    A.        Again, the easiest place to obtain a copy of the most current form is on this website.  Go to the Continuing Education tab. If necessary, contact NVRA Member Services for a copy of the form.

    Q.      What is the deadline for turning in an Individual Request for Credit after I attend an event that is not pre-approved by NVRA?

    A.        Please postmark your Individual Request for Credit within 60 days of the event for which you are seeking credit.  Please be sure to provide all required accompanying documentation and applicable fees for prompt processing of your request.

    Q.      How do I determine if an event has been preapproved by NVRA?

    A.        Preapproved events are those sponsored by NVRA, sponsored by state court reporting associations, and/or sponsored by vendors or individuals who have sought and received preapproval.  These opportunities are listed on this website and in the Verbatim Record, along with the specific titles of approved seminars.  While additional seminars may be offered by the provider, only the listed titles are preapproved.
